About Us
Hi-Tech Plastics was incorporated in the state of Maryland in July 1982. Operations were not started until December 1983. Initial operations were begun with two molding machines in a rented bus garage just outside of Cambridge, Maryland on Route 50. At the time, there were only three employees along with the owner and founder of Hi-Tech Plastics, Douglas Bennett. By October of 1988, we had grown to four machines and twelve employees in the same small rented bus garage. Construction of the Chesapeake Industrial Park site commenced in January of 1989 and we moved from our Route 50 location to the Chesapeake Industrial Park location in October of 1989.
From this initial small beginning, Hi-Tech Plastics experienced steady growth throughout the 1990’s with our first large account being acquired in 1993. In 1995 Douglas Bennett was instrumental in working with Black & Decker in converting the metal boxes they used for their premier power hand tools to plastic boxes. This inter-active customer support model that Douglas Bennett developed set the stage for Hi-Tech Plastics continued growth and initiated a business relationship that continues to the present day.
In 2003 we expanded our operations to include the Mission, Texas location to further support Black & Decker operations in Reynosa, Mexico. This facility was initially 60,000 sq. ft. but was expanded in 2005 to 102,000 sq. ft. and a total of 16 injection molding machines ranging in size
from 720T to 1900T.
In 2006 all the Cambridge operations were transferred to Mission, Texas with the Cambridge offices serving as the corporate headquarters for Hi-Tech Plastics. With the continued growth of business for the Mission, Texas facility, it was decided that the corporate headquarters should be located in Mission, Texas and this was completed in 2009.
